As I strive to support you and your family, my work is driven and guided by these basic beliefs:
Birth matters. Birth memories and their emotional imprint last a lifetime. As a professionally-trained doula, it is my job to help protect and hold the integrity of your birthing space, to help you elevate your voice, to utilize my skills and knowledge to support you and your birth team, and to help you celebrate and cherish all that birth will be for you.
When a child is born, so is a mother, a family, and their lifelong relationship. A healthy baby is obviously the ideal pregnancy outcome, yet it is not the only one. As your doula, I strive to support the whole family unit as it blossoms and unfolds into its full potential before, during, and after birth. Not only do I support you as you welcome your precious baby earth side, but I am also fully committed to help ensure that a healthy mother and family are also born on this powerful and memorable day.
Women are important in and of themselves. How they are cared for prior to and during pregnancy, childbirth, and thereafter, is important – not just because of the child they carry, give birth to, or care for – but rather because, as human beings, they have an inherent right to dignity, respect, autonomy, shared decision making, and competent nurturing care. As your doula, I can help protect that sacred and safe space in which you stand and deliver as a woman, while becoming a new mother.
Women should have full access to unbiased and evidence-based reproductive health information, services, and support. Choices about one’s own reproductive health are just that: “one’s own”. No one has the right to interfere with such choices and all women have the right to receive the necessary tools and support to make these choices, act upon them with minimum burden, and live comfortably with them.
Women deserve full spectrum support. We all need a tribe, a sisterhood, a village. As a doula, I strive to provide compassionate, knowledgeable, and spiritual support along the full spectrum of a woman’s reproductive life, including in situations where the making of family takes alternate routes such as surrogacy, IVF, sexual trauma, unplanned pregnancy, adoption, miscarriage, abortion, and late fetal loss.
Childbirth preparation goes beyond learning about the physiology of birth. The mind, body, and spirit are deeply interconnected. Birthing women and their partners can benefit greatly from engaging in facilitated activities and reflections about their deep-seated emotions, hopes, and fears regarding pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting. As a Birthing From Within mentor, I use art-making and solution-focused mentoring as powerful vehicles to ensure that you are prepared to navigate the unpredictability of birth in a holistic and nurtured way.
Families come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and credos. I honor and serve all loving families. I thrive on diversity and the collective wisdom that we create together.
